Screwtape preface

filmography

A few years ago I was teaching a study on C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters”. I knew that half the class wouldn’t get around to reading the text so I created videos that hit most of the points I was going to cover. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be presenting those videos here! We’ll start off with the preface :

Calvery Ridge Christmas Party

filmography

This is a little promo I did for my Church. We are doing a Christmas party for the kids this weekend, something to give parents a chance to run out and take care of last minuet Christmas chores without having to worry about what to do with their children. It features my beautiful wife, my two girls, one of the kids down the street….and a robot.

This video did get censored, and we removed two of the gags…but more on that next week hmmmm? For now sit back and enjoy “Places to not leave your children”

Happy Belated Easter

Doing some Easter stuff over at Violent Blue today. I’m bummed couldn’t get this up before Easter, but my scheduling has been a little off here.

It’s just never occurred to me to be offended by the whole “Happy Zombie Jesus Day” thing before -I’m still not but I can see how some people might try to use this as something insulting. I prefer to look at it as a fun way of describing Christ…then again I’ve always been into using pop culture as metaphor.
I hit the Cedar Lee Saturday night/ Sunday morning for a midnight showing of the Terminator – the original. It was incredible to see that on the big screen although I’ll grant, some of the effects do not hold up. The head with the exposed robot eye never did, but even some of those future war sequences don’t look all that great. It’s just one or two, but it’s stuff I never noticed watching it on TV.
You know, I don’t think I’ve ever seen the full version of this before. It’s always been edited for TV.

Anyhow, it was fun to start my Easter off with Ahhhnold, though I was dragging a bit that morning heading to Church. Still managed to shred  my way through the morning music and had a nice Easter morning with my wife and girls. Also a  big thanks to Angelique Bone for posting a link to “Night of the Lepus”. A perfect way to end my Easter. We had a good one.  Hope you did too!

Violent Blue 1/4/12

It’s a somber time over at Violent Blue, and I wanted to share some of my thoughts on the current storyline. It’s been part of the plan since the beginning, so don’t think I’m jumping the shark by killing off a main character, and don’t think that it’ll be forgotten anytime soon.

Sometimes there are no answers. None of this side of the schism anyhow. Sometimes the answers arn’t what we are really looking for anyhow.

As I write this, my mother-in-law is in the hospital. We think it may have been a heart attack, but we won’t actually know for a while yet. That may be the worst part. The not knowing. The timing, coming as it did in the middle of the funeral storyline….is unnerving to say the least.

I’ve always found Blasphemous rumors to be a strange dichotomy. It’s meant to be, but it really depends on your perspective. If you believe in eternity, if you believe in God and a saving relationship with him…then the song might just be about God holding back on taking that soul until it’s ready. Funny, considering the song’s meant to be an ironic tragedy. I find a great deal of hope in it. Apparently Steve does too.

We’re going to be heading into a rough year for some of our characters. Violent Blue has always tried to keep a hint of drama around, and this year is no diffrent. That said, I hope we’ll continue to make you laugh (starting next week we go back to funny, trust me) and maybe make you think sometimes as well.

Opps! Got to go. The Boss is ordering pizza for us in the office!

Faith, horror and comics….

I see that no one has taken a stab at that Whose Line caption yet. I feel really bad about that. Usually I can whip up two or three, but just haven’t had any inspiration over there. I hope someone can throw a strip or two up there before Ben has to change it.

However, we do have a new Violent Blue up, talking about how Christians seem to find each other in the strangest places. I was a little surprised the first time this happened at The Chamber Nightclub, but at this point it no longer freaks me out. It’s not just clubs either…I find the people of faith at Horror cons, comic shops, film and art festivals…and it’s never when I’m expecting it.

Speaking of comic shops, one of the guys I was playing Heroclix with Monday night told me there was a new one out in Lorain, so I slipped out there this week. Not a lot of local places sell modern Heroclix singles so I really wanted to check out the selection. The place is nice, clean and friendly, in fact, they were kind enough to hook me up with that FCDB Green lantern I missed out on! I’m thinking of stopping out there for game nights on the off weeks I don’t play at Warzone (Like the week of my wife’s monthly game night). Check out Get ‘Em Comics at this address :

Finally, we got Taversia Top list back up on the comic site, so do me a favor and vote me up a bit over there huh? I’ve got some lost time to make up for.

In other news, I’ll be at the Elyria Art festival this Sunday! Come see me over at Ely park from 11:00 to 4:00! I’ll be doing fast free sketches, selling preview collections of Violent Blue and creating new cartoons during the show. Come on down and say hi!

Now if I can only get the Kansas Song “power” out of my head…. and believe it or not, when this question was asked in Church, I did NOT give either of these answers. (But other people did…)

Sorry for the late update this morning. I input the wrong number for the month and it posted as if it were back in July. The new Whose Line posted this morning should make up for my lateness though!

Violent Blue Updated!

New Violent Blue strip is up!

It’s interesting how much spirituality I heard In the new Pirates movie this weekend. There are Sundays I don’t hear as much about redemption and eternal life…..

I also thought it was really cool that the missionary was such a well done character. usually when you see a preacher in a typical Hollywood movie, he’s the serial killer. I liked that he really was the only heroic character in this movie.

They finally got a Pirates sequal right. The previous pirates sequals tried to bring back EVERY character from the previous films and just overloaded the movies. Enough to sink already weak scripts. This one however, they pruned down the cast significantly and really focused on Jack. They had great villians and a solid script. They still managed to leave it open for a sequal while creating a movie that stands on it’s own. With Dead man’s Chest and World’s End, you really need to see both movies and that’s just no fun.

3d did nothing for me. It actually distracted me more than enhancing the film. Otherwise, I really enjoyed the movie….and I especially enjoyed going to see it with my wife (but no kids).
