Out of nowhere, Maddie asked me to redo her Iron Sapphire armor! I’ve always been leased with it, but we had to completely remake the midplate expand the legs because she’s grown so much since the last time she wore it!
As Maddie has grown, we’ve adjusted and adapted that Star Sapphire suit – my favorite though, was the Iron Sapphire!
Lake Effect is the first convention I ever took my children to and has been one of our favourites. In the past, this has been a free convention and that means the dealers brought all of their overflow and overstock – and you could frequently find great deals and liquidation stuff at this show. The move from there space at the theatre to the new space at the hotel has necessitated an admission charge, and I’m interested in seeing how that affects the dynamic of the show. I’m hoping the deals that I’ve come to expect from like the fact are still going to be there – it was time though, this convention had outgrown the cramped spaces of the theatre lobby a year or two ago.
I’ve done some upgrades to Mr freeze, and I’m breaking this suit out for Sunday – we’ve upgraded Maddys star Sapphire as well. She had outgrown that old leotard, so we’ve made some changes – it will also be the premiere of her new iron Sapphire armour! We are so excited. Will be rolling in after church, probably around 130 although the con begins much earlier – we’re going to miss about half of the hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy film that they are screening but should be around for shopping, costume contests, and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Hope to see you there!
So you want to make my daughter deliriously happy? Show her that her favorite princess and her favorite villian are played by the same person.
Maddie’s obsession with Star Sapphire hasn’t abated and I was intrigued to discover she was voiced by Jennifer Hale in the Green Lantern series. She’s the same actress who voiced Cinderella in the direct to video cash grabs – I mean sequels. She responded to our letter in about two weeks, lightning fast and a triumph for Maddie!
So we went out trick or treating this year at our usual haunts. We started off at Carol and John’s comic book shop for Halloween Comic Fest (You can read some more about that over at the Kreepy Kastle!). Everyone loved Maddie’s costume. She’s pulling out her Star Sapphire suit for one last go around…it’s getting too small on her now, but she’s been wanting to do a Lantern theme for a while now, so I did myself up as Sinestro and went with her. The people at Carol and John’s really dug the synchronicity between the costumes and Maddie got some titles she really wanted like Marvel Zombies and Scooby-Doo Teamup with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy.
Then we hit Jamie’s Flea Market. Now, to be fair, the people in the Groovy little toy store part of the Flea market knew who we were. In fact, the guy running the CCG counter is a BIG Sinestro fan. But the rest of the flea market….they didn’t get it. Maddie was getting pissed because people kept calling her a princess – worse, they though I was the devil. I love that she just assumes everyone will know who Sinestro and Star Sapphire are.
In any event, Maddie got her photo taken at the Flea Market which enters her in thier costume contest! So here’s the thing. I need to ask for a favor. Please, head up to Maddie’s picture on facebook and hit “like”. The most likes wins the contest – lets show Jamie’s Flea Market just who Star Sapphire is! You have until Friday, but please don’t wait! The link to vote is here : https://www.facebook.com/107030040080/photos/a.10153555422580081.1073741834.107030040080/10153555427445081/?type=3&theater
